Research
I am a researcher in Natural Language Processing (NLP). For a significant part of my career, my research has primarily focused on machine translation and language modeling. As such, I have a broad interest in all text generation tasks. The machine translation system we developed, NiuTrans, now supports translation among more than 450 languages and has been deployed at scale. We aim to expand its language coverage and further improve its translation quality in the future.
Recently, my focus has expanded to include speech processing, such as speech-to-text and speech-to-speech translation. My research also explores the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, and NLP, with a focus on areas like building neuroscience-inspired language models. It is important to note, however, that in these interdisciplinary efforts, my role remains firmly on the NLP side; I am not an expert in psychology.
Furthermore, I have a strong interest in efficient methods for NLP. This includes not only efficient model architectures but also efficient training and inference techniques.
I am a strong advocate for open source. Many projects from our team are available on our
GitHub page.
