Prof. Yao graduated from Jilin University in 1956. He is
currently Professor, Doctoral Supervisor and Hornored Director
of the Department of Computer Science, Northeastern University,
China. He is a Governing Board member of International Chinese
Language Computer Society, Editorial Board member of International
Journal of Computer Processing of Oriental Languages,
member of Chinese Information Society
of China, member of China Instrument
Society, member of Artificial
Intelligent Society of China, and the president of
Computer Society of Shenyang.
He has served as a general chairman, vice-chairman on numerous
international conferences, national conferences or on the
program committees of numerous international workshops and
conferences.
Prof. Yao’s main research interest is in Human Language Technology.
Specifically, his work focuses on applying information technology
to problems in Natural Language Processing such as Chinese
Text Parsing and Understanding, Chinese Text filtering, Multilingual
MT, Question-Answer system, Cross Language Information Retrieval.
He has written more than one hundred papers and has authored
six books, including scientific monograph -- Natural
Language Processing- A research of making computers understand
human languages (in Chinese)etc.
