Tan Yong-mei's research interests are Natural Language Processing (also known as Computational Linguistics). More specifically, her current research interest is machine learning.

Her supervisor is Prof. Tianshun Yao. Before she started her master degree at NEU in Sep. 2000, she worked for Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Science in Shenyang for 3 years as a B.S. degree of CS holder.
